After rallying to beat Costa Rica to finish atop Group B and erasing a two-goal deficit to knock off Canada in the quarterfinals, Haiti face the ultimate challenge in a first-ever trip to the Gold Cup semifinals when they meet tournament-favorite Mexico, which outlasted Costa Rica on penalty kicks in the quarters, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Tuesday night.

This is the second meeting between Haiti and Mexico in the Gold Cup. The teams met in the 2009 quarterfinals with El Tri cruising to a 4-0 win at Cowboys Stadium. Miguel Sabah struck for a brace and Gio dos Santos and Pablo Barrera added a goal apiece late in each half en route to Mexico's fifth Gold Cup title.

In case there was any question if it got better than a 2-1 win over Costa Rica to finish atop a Gold Cup group for the first time,  Les Grenadiers rallied from a two-goal deficit to stun Canada, 3-2, at NRG Stadium in Houston Saturday night.

Jonathan David and Lucas Cavallini staked Canada a 2-0 lead inside of the opening 30 minutes, but Duckens Nazon, who scored a pivotal PK against Costa Rica, started the comeback five minutes after halftime. Herve Bazile leveled from the penalty spot 20 minutes later and Wilde-Donald Guerrier scored the winner in the 76th minute.

Mexico booked a berth in the Gold Cup semifinals for a 12th time in 15 appearances, but it needed a penalty kick shootout to get past Costa Rica in a thrilling quarterfinal in Houston Saturday night.

Raul Jimenez opened the scoring, a clinical finish to the bottom corner just before halftime. Just after the break, though, Costa Rica found an equalizer. After Luis Rodriguez brought down Joel Campbell in the box, Bryan Ruiz stepped up and sent Memo Ochoa the wrong way. Ochoa came up big, though, in the shootout, saving Keysher Fuller's attempt, to secure passage into the semifinals.
