TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
The Houston Dynamo are looking for a spark to keep their Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs hopes alive, and they may have found one on Wednesday, as they acquired forward Christian Ramirez in a trade with LAFC for $100,000 in 2019 General Allocation Money, $75,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money, $75,000 in 2020 Targeted Allocation Money, along with additional future performance-based considerations.
“We are very pleased to add a player like Christian Ramirez to the Houston Dynamo. He is a proven goal-scorer who is in the prime of his career and has national team experience,” Dynamo senior vice president and general manager Matt Jordan said in a team statement. “With his skillset he will complement our current attacking corps quite well. With the addition of Christian, we are confident that our roster is in a good position to finish the season well and push for the playoffs.”
The 28-year-old has four goals and two assists in 17 MLS regular-season appearances this season. Beginning his tenure in MLS in 2017 with Minnesota United, Ramirez has scored 27 goals and seven assists in 74 regular-season appearances for the Loons and LAFC in his career, to go with a goal in one postseason appearance.
Ramirez has also been capped by the US national team this year, scoring one goal in two appearances under Gregg Berhalter.
The Dynamo currently sit in 9th place in the Western Conference, three points below the playoff line. They are back in action on Thursday against NYCFC at Yankee Stadium (7 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+; DAZN in Canada).
