Two players with MLS connections – Erick “Cubo” Torres and Carlos Salcedo – were named to the Mexican national team's starting lineup for Wednesday’s friendly with the United States in San Antonio (8:30 pm ET; Fox Sports 1, UniMas), head coach Miguel Herrera announced after the team’s training session at Trinity University on Tuesday.
Both currently with Chivas Guadalajara, Torres spent the past two seasons with Chivas USA, while Salcedo graduated from the Real Salt Lake Academy and played the previous two seasons with RSL’s first team before moving to Guadalajara this past winter.
Torres was signed by the Houston Dynamo after the 2014 season, loaned back to Guadalajara for six months, and will return to MLS as a Designated Player this summer.
He will start up top at the Alamodome alongside Pumas UNAM forward Eduardo “Lalo” Herrera, who scored his first international goal in March’s 1-0 win over Paraguay on March 31.
Salcedo got the nod as part of a three-man central defense in Mexico's 5-3-2 formation, alongside Cruz Azul veteran Francisco “Maza” Rodriguez and Monterrey’s Hiram Mier.
Tijuana’s Cirilo Saucedo will start in goal in just his second national-team appearance.
