Wednesday will be a day in U.S. Open Cup lore, and for the team that lifts the trophy in Houston.
The Houston Dynamo will be hosting the Philadelphia Union in the 2018 final of the oldest competition in American soccer, and the winner will take their first-ever Open Cup title.
From Houston's perspective, an Open Cup trophy would help "reaffirm" the current project, in the words of midfielder/defender Andrew Wenger, under head coach Wilmer Cabrera. With the team looking like they will miss out on the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, the Dynamo look like they are putting their all into the USOC.
In the latest episode of The SLICE, Houston's behind-the-scenes video series on their website, they begin a special U.S. Open Cup run by looking back at the road to Wednesday's final, and what it would mean for the club to get that title at BBVA Compass Stadium. Be sure to check out later episodes of The SLICE when they are released on the Dynamo website and social media channels.
