TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor
After Zlatan Ibrahimovic's fantastic 2018 season in MLS, rumors have been swirling about a potential return to Europe with some top clubs reportedly interested.
The strongest reports have linked Ibrahimovic with a return to AC Milan, where he scored 56 goals in 85 appearances across all competitions in two hugely successful seasons from 2010-12. Ibrahimovic addressed those rumors in a Vanity Fair piece.
“I won’t say ‘no’ and I won’t say ‘yes’," Ibrahimovic said. "We’ll see… [Gennaro] Gattuso was a great player and is a great coach."
Ibrahimovic scored 22 goals and added 10 assists in 27 appearances for LA Galaxy this season, but the club fell one point short of reaching the playoffs after falling to the Houston Dynamo, 3-2 on Decision Day presented by AT&T.
He confirmed the interest and added that he's happy in Los Angeles.
“There’s interest, but I’d be fine spending another year in LA," Ibrahimovic said. He also said he was 'forced' to leave AC Milan for PSG in 2012.
It was in line with what the 37-year-old said at his end-of-the-season availability when he said he was in talks with the Galaxy.
"Let's just say I'm happy, my family, everybody's happy, and we have a good time and a good life here," Ibrahimovic said earlier this month. "[I'd like to resolve this] as soon as possible. I think everything is work in progress. Everybody's working, so let's see. It depends how big loan we can get from the bank.”
