TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
Inter Miami have acquired midfielder Jay Chapman from Toronto FC in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Wednesday.
Chapman, 25, was signed as a Homegrown player ahead of the 2015 season and has made 79 appearances for TFC. With the club, the Michigan State product won an MLS Cup, a Supporters' Shield and three Canadian Championships.
“With Jay we are bringing on a versatile attacking midfielder with good experience in the league and at the international levels,” Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a club statement. “We are pleased to bring him to Inter Miami and continue his development.”
Inter Miami has now signed seven players.
“Jay has been part of the club for a long time and we are wishing him nothing but the very best in his next endeavor. Having signed a homegrown contract in 2015, Jay has been part of teams over the years that have won a lot for the club,” TFC GM Ali Curtis said in a club statement. “While we believe the trade is good for TFC, it presents a solid opportunity for Jay to start a new chapter in his life and playing career. Jay will be missed but having been with both our academy and first team, he will always be part of the TFC family.”
