It's been a weird offseason for Je-Vaughn Watson but it looks like he finally has a home.
After mutually agreeing to part ways with FC Dallas, the defender/midfielder was signed and traded to the New England Revolution on Friday. Dallas received the Revolution's natural third-round 2017 SuperDraft pick in return.
Watson, 32, has been a major fixture for FC Dallas since 2013, where he tallied 78 appearances with six goals and four assists. Before Dallas, Watson spent two seasons with the Houston Dynamo, including during their 2011 MLS Cup run, and he made 41 appearances.
"Je-Vaughn is a versatile player who brings significant experience in both MLS and the international stage to the roster,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “We’re confident he will play a valuable role for the team this season.”
He had reportedly requested a trade out of Dallas to be closer to his daughter in Philadelphia. Two weeks ago, FC Dallas and Watson mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
Watson continues to play a role with the Jamaican national team, where he has 52 career caps and a goal. He started all but one of the CONCACAF Gold Cup matches last summer for the Reggae Boyz.
