Three players were selected in Stage Two of the 2020 Re-Entry Draft, headlined by an intriguing selection to lead things off.
The Houston Dynamo picked Joe Corona with the No. 2 pick. The midfielder was selected by Austin FC in the Expansion Draft last week, but didn't opt out of the Re-Entry Draft. The Dynamo now hold his MLS rights.
Corona was eligible for selection because he was an option-declined player and had not yet signed with Austin prior to the Re-Entry Draft. He could have opted out of the Re-Entry Draft but didn't, so was eligible for selection.
The 30-year-old midfielder spent the last two seasons with the LA Galaxy, making 47 appearances. Prior to joining the Galaxy, Corona began his career south of the border with Club Tijuana in Liga MX. He made 195 appearances for the club.
D.C. United made the next selection of the draft, picking forward Adrien Perez. The 25-year-old forward was most recently with LAFC, making 21 appearances (three starts) over the last two seasons.
Lastly, Columbus Crew SC picked goalkeeper Eric Dick. Dick, 26, has made one MLS appearance during a few seasons with Sporting KC. He spent 2020 on loan with Phoenix Rising in the USL Championship.
All other teams passed on selecting players.
Additionally, after the draft, clubs were given the opportunity to select players who were on their roster last year. Minnesota United picked forward Luis Amarilla and Sporting KC picked midfielder Felipe Gutierrez. Amarilla's loan expires at the end of 2020, though the club hope he returns.
Teams can select players who are out of contract or whose contract options were declined by their last clubs in the Re-Entry draft. Stage 2 gives teams that select players the ability to renegotiate contracts.
Players who remain unselected after Stage 2 will be available to any MLS club on a first-come, first-served basis.
