Player Rating
Known in Salt Lake as the “Swiss Army Knife,” Allen is listed as a midfielder, but can also play as a defender or forward. The versatile 21-year-old is most at home in the midfield, however, and has had his most successful spells at RSL when lining up centrally.
Unfortunately, Allen has been hampered by injuries in each of his three seasons as a pro, lost for the season early in his rookie campaign and dealing with various maladies in 2015 and 2016. He’s performed well when on the field and has become a bit more consistent this year, scoring three goals and adding an assist in 19 appearances (nine starts).
A product of the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy, Allen was a US Under-20 international, making two starts at last year's World Cup in New Zealand.
What the technical staffers say:
“A good physical presence. A player who has a good engine – he can get up and down the field. He seems to be a very competitive player, not going to shy away from contact or a challenge.”
“I think he can be a player, if he continues to get more minutes and finding ways to be more consistent and effective with those minutes. He’s got the size, the speed, the technical ability to be a dangerous player for that team.”
