He's already the MLS single-season goal king, but Josef Martinez continues to build on that historic achievement.
The Atlanta United striker opened the scoring in Sunday's Eastern Conference Championship Leg 1 match against the New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In the process, he tallied his 34th goal combined in the regular season and Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, breaking the league record in the process, per TruMedia Networks' Paul Carr.
Of note, Martinez beat out Roy Lassiter's 1996 mark, as well as Bradley Wright-Phillips' 2014 tally, both of 27 regular-season goals, earlier this season, and now has the undisputed best goal-scoring record in a season in league history.
