FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Two months after his unceremonious departure from Columbus Crew SC, Kei Kamara will come face-to-face with the club that he helped guide to an Eastern Conference championship a year ago on Saturday (7:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
Now the star striker for a New England Revolution side that is struggling to get above the red line, he knows the imperative to grab maximum points is more important than his thirst for revenge against his old club.
“Yes, we are playing Columbus. I’ve just got to keep my emotions intact and I have to be ready for it,” said Kamara. “Right now, it’s about the group. It’s about really getting three points and whatever it’s going to take."
Kamara is also hopeful that he will still have some solid insight on Crew SC to present to his current teammates and coaches.
“From me, learning from everything that I learned from when I was there, from the whole time that I was there, and feeding that information out to the boys in the locker room, just to make sure that we’re ready and to make sure that we get all the points from this game,” he said.
While Kamara did finally break through on the score sheet with a recent brace in Montreal, the Revolution have dropped three straight and currently sit in eighth place in the East with just 19 points from 18 games played, with a league worst -9 goal differential.
If ever there was a time that a team needed a spark, this would be it and Kamara is hoping to be in the proper position to provide that in an effort to strike against his old mates – and more importantly, helping his current ones grab a much-needed victory.
“I want to be part of a winning team,” he said. “Whatever I can bring to apply to this team to take into the games and it’s going to be good for me.
“Columbus is Columbus, but the most important thing, too, is they are in the Eastern Conference, so all those games really count for us. For me, definitely, as a forward you want to score a goal and at the same time you want to win. I’m going to do everything I can when my number is called, coach puts me out there in the right position, and I’ll be ready to play for it.”
