Orlando City have taken home their second straight AT&T Goal of the Week prize.
Kevin Molino’s last-gasp equalizer in the Lions’ 2-2 draw at New York City FC on Sunday claimed the Week 13 title, beating out Montreal midfielder Lucas Ontivero’s finish from the Impact’s 3-2 win against LA for the honor. Molino’s win comes one week after Orlando forward Cyle Larin won the Week 12 award.
Carlos Rivas started the play that led to Molino’s dramatic 94th-minute goal, finding Larin at the back post with a cross from the left wing. The Canadian striker headed the ball back into the center of the area, where an onrushing Molino bravely headed home (narrowly avoiding the flying boot of teammate Julio Baptista) to earn Orlando a valuable road result.
Molino’s goal topped Ontivero’s effort by a 65-35 percent margin in the final. The Trinidad and Tobago international, who has six goals and three assists in 12 games this year, topped Philadelphia Union midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta in the first round and Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley in the semis.
