LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic has gotten the call that every player dreams of.
Husidic left Bosnia & Herzegovina as a child as his family sought refuge from the wars that ravaged the Balkan region in the 1990s, eventually taking up residence in Illinois, and now his homeland has come calling with an international call-up.
LA's versatile veteran has been included in the B&H roster for that nation's upcoming friendlies, first against mighty Spain on May 29, followed by a trip to Japan for the Kirin Cup tournament, where the Dragons will face Denmark, Bulgaria and Japan next month.
It's the first international call-up for the 29-year-old, who's scored a goal and an assist in 606 minutes (10 appearances, six starts) for LA this season. He's listed as a forward on Bosnia & Herzegovina's selection list.
“It’s the biggest honor that you can get as a footballer, to play for your national team,” Husidic told Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano last week. “Obviously, I was born and raised there, and it’s a country that I represent. I’m looking forward to things being finalized and seeing what happens in the future.”
