LAFC forward Diego Rossi named MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G
22-year-old led league with 10 combined goals and assists in tournament

– Major League Soccer announced today that Los Angeles Football Club forward Diego Rossi has been named the MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G.
The 22-year-old led all players with a combined 10 goals and assists, capturing the MLS is Back Tournament Golden Boot presented by Audi with seven goals, while his three assists were tied for seventh most.

The highlight of Rossi’s tournament performance came on July 18 in LAFC’s 6-2 victory over El Tráfico rival LA Galaxy when scoring four goals, becoming the 13
th
player in MLS history to achieve the feat. Rossi’s five combined goals and assists in that match tied the all-time league record, becoming the first player to accomplish this twice in his MLS career.
Rossi also scored a goal and recorded an assist in LAFC’s opening 3-3 draw against the Houston Dynamo on July 13, scored a brace in the club’s 4-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on July 27 in the Round-of-16, and recorded an assist in a 1(5)-1(4) penalty kick loss to Orlando City SC in the Quarterfinals on July 31.
Of Rossi’s 10 combined goals and assists, five goals and two assists came in the MLS is Back Tournament Group Stage presented by Heineken and count toward the regular season. The Uruguayan now leads the league in the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi with six regular season goals and is also tied for eighth with two regular season assists entering return to play in home markets.
To be eligible for the MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G, a player must be age 22 or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 1998) and must not turn 23 years old during the calendar year.
The MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament award was voted on by media (weighted 75% of vote) and fans (weighted 25% of vote). Below is a breakdown of the voting results:
