LAFC's Diego Rossi continues his stellar individual campaign, and the Uruguayan attacker has been named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 9 of the 2020 season for his most recent efforts.
Rossi bagged a brace in LAFC's 5-1 home victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday for his fifth multi-goal effort of his MLS regular season career, and second this season. Rossi now has an eye-popping nine goals in eight games, putting him atop the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi.
Rossi's first goal against San Jose was the opener in the 21st minute — a stellar strike from the left side of the penalty box that beat Quakes goalkeeper Daniel Vega to the far post.
He would add his second in the 69th minute, with a cheekily redirected finish into the net after he ran on to a deflection off a San Jose defender.
With the victory, LAFC are now third in the Western Conference standings with 12 points. The club is back in action on Sunday when it takes on El Trafico rivals LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park (10:30 p.m. ET | UniMás, TUDN in US; TSN2 in Canada).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75% of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25% of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
