LAFC forward Diego Rossi is racking up some serious hardware from the MLS is Back Tournament.
Already the winner of the MLS is Back Tournament Golden Boot presented by Audi award for his seven goals in Orlando, Rossi was also named the MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old led all players with a combined 10 goals and assists, highlighted by a four-goal performance in a 6-2 El Trafico win over the LA Galaxy in the group stage. Rossi’s five combined goals and assists in that match tied the all-time league record, also making him the first player to accomplish this feat twice in his career.
Five of Rossi’s goals were during the group stage, which counts toward regular-season records. As such, the Uruguayan leads the league race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi with six regular-season goals.
To be eligible for the MLS is Back Young Player of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G, a player must be age 22 or younger and must not turn 23 years old during the 2020 calendar year (born on or after Jan. 1, 1998) .
The Young Player of the Tournament award was voted on by media (75%) and fans (25%). Rossi, who received 32.27% of the final vote, edged out Philadelphia Union 19-year-old midfielder Brenden Aaronson, who accumulated 30.75% of the vote.
