On-loan Atlanta United striker Kenwyne Jones scores for Central FC vs. SKC

Kenwyne Jones won’t play for Atlanta United for another seven months, but he’s already scoring goals against MLS opposition.

The Trinidad and Tobago striker, who signed with Atlanta on July 15 and was subsequently loaned out for the remainder of 2016 to Trinidadian club Central FC, scored the second goal in Central’s 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City in CONCACAF Champions League action on Tuesday night.

Jones bagged the final goal in a five-minute scoring spree early in the second half, running onto a Marcus Joseph through ball in the right side of the box and powering a low shot inside the near post to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute:

Kevin Ellis scored in the 70th minute to pull Sporting level, giving SKC a road point in their CCL opener.

Jones also had a goal disallowed in the first half, getting called for a foul on SKC goalkeeper Jon Kempin after he headed home a set piece.

Tuesday’s result left the Vancouver Whitecaps, who won 1-0 at Central earlier this month, in first place in CCL Group C. SKC are in second with one point through one match, while Central are bringing up the rear with one point through two games. Vancouver will host Sporting in CCL play next Tuesday.
