Erick 'Cubo' Torres' robot celebration has made it back to Mexico.
Torres scored his first goal since returning to Chivas de Guadalajara on loan, netting the insurance goal in a 2-0 Copa MX win over second-division side Lobos BUAP on Tuesday. The Houston Dynamo striker scored on a close-range header from a free kick in the 79th minute (watch Univision highlights).
It was his first club goal in Mexico since Nov. 18, 2012, and Torres proceeded to celebrate with his patented robot dance.
The victory moved Chivas into second place in Group 4, though they have played one more game than both Sinaloa and Irapuato. Only the group winner is guaranteed to advance, while two of the six runners-up will also move on to the quarterfinals.
Having scored 22 goals in 44 regular-season MLS games from 2013-14, the 22-year-old Torres is on loan to Chivas through the end of the Liga MX Clausura campaign. He is expected to join the Dynamo, who signed him as a Designated Player this offseason following the dissolution of Chivas USA, in July.
With Chivas this season, Torres has made just one Liga MX appearance, playing 22 minutes as a substitute on Jan. 18, and has been an unused substitute for the last two Liga MX games. He has started all three Copa MX encounters.
Torres is scheduled to be welcomed at a club event in Houston this Sunday.
