After a 17-year playing career, all-time MLS great Ricardo Clark is set to sign a one-day contract with the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday and retire.
Clark had been a free agent after being out of contract this offseason, his last two years spent with Columbus Crew SC. Before then, Clark enjoyed two different stints in Houston (2006-09, 2012-17) and ranks second in club history in games played (304), games started (286) and minutes played (25,319) across all competitions. He helped the Dynamo win MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007, and was a three-time MLS All-Star.
All told, Clark registered 357 regular-season appearances in MLS with 36 goals and 28 assists. He also spent a year with the San Jose Earthquakes and began his MLS career in 2003 with the MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) as a draft pick out of Furman University.
In the international arena, Clark made 34 appearances for the US men’s national team and scored three times. He also featured for three seasons at German club Eintracht Frankfurt, plus had a brief loan stint at Swedish side Stabæk.
The retirement ceremony will be held at BBVA Stadium, and Clark will be joined by Dynamo SVP and general manager Matt Jordan, as well as several of his former teammates in Houston.
