A crowd of 18,100 on a Thursday night at Banc of California Stadium was treated to a show by LAFC captain Carlos Vela, who scored two top-notch first-half goals in a 4-1 win over J.League side Vissel Kobe featuring Andres Iniesta, Lukas Podolski and former MLS star David Villa.
Vela, who was recently in the crosshairs of FC Barcelona, showed off his magical left foot on a patented curling shot and then on a penetrating run and finish 10 minutes later.
Defender Dejan Jakovic scored on a header in the second half before the two teams exchanged goals in the final 10 minutes.
LAFC, who beat Toronto FC 3-1 in their preseason opener, next host Columbus Crew SC on Monday, February 4 (5 pm ET).
