Atlanta United will be without newly signed midfielder Matheus Rossetto when they open their competitive season in Concacaf Champions League action in Honduras next week, manager Frank de Boer revealed in an interview on the SiriusXM FC program CounterAttack.
The issue, De Boer explains, is a delay in the process of obtaining a P-1 Visa.
"Matheus Rossetto cannot play against Motagua, the first Concacaf game," he said. "Hopefully Jake Mulraney can do that, Fernando Meza our new signing, he can play against Motagua."
That will be unwelcome news for Five Stripes fans who have already seen their first glimpse of the former Athletico Paranense midfielder in a preseason friendly last Saturday.
Atlanta are competing in the Concacaf Champions League for a second consecutive year. They were eliminated last year at the quarterfinal stage by eventual champions CF Monterrey.
