What a week it’s been for Mauro Manotas.
On Saturday night, just three days after his brace lifted the Houston Dynamo to their first U.S. Open Cup title, the Colombian forward set a Dynamo club record Saturday with his 15th goal of the MLS season.
The record strike helped key a big comeback as the Dynamo rallied from two goals back in the second half to beat the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-2, for for their eighth home victory of the year.
Coming into the game, Manotas had been tied with Erick “Cubo” Torres, who broke the record last year with 14 goals. Brian Ching held the mark for a long time before that with the 13 goals he netted in 2008.
Manotas, who won the Open Cup’s Golden Boot with six goals in the tournament, also owns the Dynamo scoring record for all competitions with 21 goals — five clear of the 16 that Will Bruin scored in 2012.
