Blanco, a former Chicago Fire and Mexican national team star, started and played the first 39 minutes against an overmatched Israel side. Every touch of his was cheered wildly by the home crowd at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
He was replaced – and given a standing, drawn-out ovation by the fans – in the 39th minute, and that's when El Tri really took off. They potted their first in the 43rd minute through Miguel Layún, then got one each in the second half from Layún and Marco Fabián.
