Mexico, Costa Rica to face off in friendly at Orlando Citrus Bowl on June 27

Two of CONCACAF's best are set to face off in Orlando's Citrus Bowl ahead of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, as six-time winners Mexco will face 2014 World Cup quarterfinalists Costa Rica in a June 27 friendly, it was annouced Wednesday.


The teams open Gold Cup play less than two weeks later, with Costa Rica kicking off July 8 and Mexico July 9.



The game is the fourth so far in Mexico's 2015 US tour. They will also play in Los Angeles (March 28 vs. Ecuador, LA Memorial Coliseum), Kansas City (March 31 vs. Paraguay, Arrowhead Stadium) and Houston (July 1 vs. Honduras).


It will be Mexico's first game at the Citrus Bowl since their 2-1 win over Ireland in the 1994 World Cup.

The Citrus Bowl welcomed a sold-out crowd of more than 62,000 for Orlando City's first MLS game earlier this month. Reconstructed in 2014, the historic stadium has hosted several top soccer events, including the 1994 FIFA World Cup, 1996 Summer Olympic soccer and the 1998 MLS All-Star Game.
