Interim Mexico manager Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti named his squad for El Tri’s upcoming friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago and Argentina on Thursday, notably omitting LA Galaxy star Giovani dos Santos from the 23-man roster.
Dos Santos has been lights out since joining the Galaxy last month, racking up two goals and three assists in just three league contests with LA. The 26-year-old attacker has more than 80 career caps for Mexico, most recently playing for El Tri at this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Also left off of Mexico’s roster for their September 4th friendly in Salt Lake City vs. Trinidad & Tobago and their September 8th contest against Argentina in Dallas were Jonathan dos Santos (Giovani's brother), and goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. The two friendlies will serve as a tune-up for the October 10th Confederations Cup playoff between Mexico and the US at the Rose Bowl outside Los Angeles.
