A rivalry is renewed in the Gold Cup final when Mexico and the United States meet at a sold-out Soldier Field Sunday.
The teams have met 71 times overall, and squared off in the Gold Cup final six previous times, the last being in 2011 when El Tri rallied from an early deficit to score four unanswered goals to win the Gold Cup, 4-2. Mexico have won the Gold Cup seven times, while the USMNT have lifted the trophy six times, including in 2017.

Mexico needed more than 90 minutes for a second straight knockout round game to reach the final for the ninth time, and first since 2015, by edging Haiti, 1-0, in the semifinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Tuesday night.
After a tense, scoreless 90 minutes, Mexico finally broke the stalemate in the third minute of extra-time, as Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot after he was kicked in the foot by Herve Bazile as both battled for a ball played into the box. Jimenez slipped his shot to the right of Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide, who was rooted to his spot.
United States
The United States got off to a hot start and tacked on a pair of late goals in a 3-1 win over Jamaica in the semifinals Wednesday night at Nissan Stadium in Nashville to reach the Gold Cup final for the 11th time.
Weston McKennie scored for the second USMNT knockout game in a row in the 9th minute and, after the match was delayed for nearly 90 minutes due to lightning strikes in the area, Christian Pulisic tacked on a second-half brace to secure the win. His second goal was three minutes from full time and after Shamar Nicholson gave the Reggae Boyz a lifeline with a 69th-minute goal.
