It's been quite the season for LAFC superstar Carlos Vela, in case you somehow haven't heard.
Vela leads MLS in goals, with 19, and is tied for the lead in assists, with 12. He's the captain of the league's runaway Supporters' Shield leaders, who enjoyed a first half of historic proportions.
He decided to decline a call-up to the Mexican national team this summer, though some consider him to still be Mexico's best player. Miguel Herrera, former El Tri boss and current Club América head coach, is one of the people who holds that opinion. When asked whether there was any Mexican player with more talent than Giovani dos Santos, here's how Herrera answered:
"[There's only] one Vela," Herrera said, according to ESPN FC. "And Vela has more than Giovani [dos Santos]."
The comment came as part of a conversation in which Herrera discussed recent Club America signing Gio dos Santos, who left the LA Galaxy before the season started.
Vela and LAFC face dos Santos' former side on Friday, this season's first installment of El Trafico (10 pm ET | ESPN, TSN2).
