NEW YORK
(Friday, March 1, 2019)
– Major League Soccer and its Clubs today announced an updated MLS Fan Code of Conduct for the 2019 season as well as a transparent, consistent set of sanctions for any violations.
This update is the result of a collaboration among the League Office and Clubs to develop a common Fan Code of Conduct and set of sanctions for all MLS matches and marquees events.
“MLS has the best fans in sports,” said MLS President and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott. “The updated Fan Code of Conduct will help ensure that our fans are able to enjoy MLS matches in exciting, vibrant and safe environments with a consistent approach across clubs.”
The updated Fan Code of Conduct, which goes into effect at the start of the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2, specifically defines actions that are prohibited at MLS venues, including threatening, abusive and offensive language, signs or gestures; throwing objects; use of unauthorized pyrotechnic devices; and vandalism.
All 24 MLS clubs will meet with their supporter groups prior to their respective home openers to review, and answer questions about, the updated Fan Code of Conduct and sanctions.
