FC Dallas announced Tuesday that they have signed Matt Hedges, the 2016 MLS Defender of the Year, to a new contract through the 2020 season.
The 26-year-old Hedges, who also was named on Monday to the MLS Best XI, helped Dallas to the Supporters' Shield and Lamar Hunt US Open Cup titles this past season.
The club went 13-4-9, recorded 11 of its 12 clean sheets of the season, and conceded just 23 goals in the 26 league matches in which Hedges appeared in 2016.
Hedges has amassed 150 regular-season appearances plus another nine in the playoffs since being selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He was called into the US national team's January camp to start 2015 and earned his lone international cap to date in a friendly against Panama later that month.
