TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Montreal Impact fans got an early Christmas present Monday when the club announced the re-signing of veteran French right back Bacary Sagna to a one-year deal.
“I am very satisfied that Bacary carries on with the club,” Impact head coach Remi Garde said in a statement. “He played a big role in our good second half to the season in 2018 and I am sure he will once again be an important part of the Impact in 2019.”
The 35-year-old former Arsenal standout arrived in Montreal in August and started all nine games he appeared in, chipping in with one goal, which came against the New York Red Bulls. With him on the field, the team managed a record of five wins, three losses and one draw, conceding just 12 goals.
“I’m very happy to be back with the Impact for one more year,” Sagna said. “I hope we have a good season and make it all the way.”
Sagna, who spent 10 years in the English Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester City, also has 65 caps for the French national team, playing in a pair of World Cups and every minute of Les Bleus matches in Euro 2016.
