TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Montreal Impact have signed Spanish attacker Bojan Krkic, the club announced Wednesday. The former Barcelona man left Stoke City by mutual consent early Tuesday morning, paving the way for Montreal to sign the player as a free agent. The playmaker was signed through the 2020 season using Targeted Allocation Money.
Bojan, 28, has spent time with Barcelona, Roma, Milan and Stoke throughout his winding career. He was once considered one of Europe's top prospects. His career hasn't exactly gone as planned and the creative attacker will look to rediscover his form.
“Bojan is a very talented player who, at 28 years old, chose the Impact to pursue his career, after having played for some of the biggest clubs in the world,” Impact head coach Rémi Garde said in a club statement. “His offensive ability to get others involved in the game and to score goals will be of precious help for the final stretch of the season. I welcome him to our club.”
Bojan most often plays as a No. 10 or second striker, though can also play on the wings.
He enjoyed his most successful campaign at the beginning of his career, with 10 goals and three assists in La Liga for Barcelona in 2007-08, his first season as a professional. Expectations were sky-high thereafter, though Bojan was never able to quite reach his lofty potential. He had stints with Roma, Milan, Ajax and elsewhere along the way.
