The Canadian national team are expecting such a big crowd ahead of their all-important clash against Mexico for World Cup qualifying that they made more tickets available on Wednesday.
The Canadian Soccer Association announced the upper bowl of BC Blace in Vancouver will be opened for the March qualifier after strong initial ticket sales. Tickets went on sale on Wednesday via Ticketmaster. The top level of the 54,500-capacity stadium is normally tarped off for soccer matches.
“We want to thank our fans for the terrific support and we are extremely pleased to be opening additional inventory to enable the Canadian soccer community and fans to attend the match and cheer for Canada,” said Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani in a statement.
The match, set for March 25, will also be broadcast on television in Canada through TSN and RDS and digitally on-demand with TSN GO, CSA announced.
“Building on the momentum from the November matches and the excellent broadcast production of the Canada v Honduras 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifier, we’re pleased to once again deliver Canadians first class coverage of the Road to Russia 2018,” Montagliani said.
Canada currently sit second in Group A of CONCACAF qualifying for the World Cup behind Mexico. Canada has a win and tie after beating Honduras at BC Place and settling for a scoreless draw in El Salvador in November.
