Cristiano Ronaldo to MLS? Orlando City SC star Nani said it could come to fruition.
Nani, who was teammates with Ronaldo at Manchester United and on the Portuguese national team, hasn’t had recent conversations with the global icon. But he revealed in an interview with ESPN's Taylor Twellman playing in Major League Soccer was something that piqued Ronaldo’s interest.
“A couple of years ago, he told me something. He said ‘I probably will end up in America,” Nani said. “It’s not 100 percent, but probably. So there is a chance.”
Another former teammate of Rolando, who signed a four-year deal with Juventus in 2018, is David Beckham. The Inter Miami CF co-owner has said previously he’d like Ronaldo and fellow Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi come to Miami in the future.
Should the 35-year-old Ronaldo decide to come to the United States in the future, Nani said he’ll come to a league with “fantastic clubs, well organized with fantastic conditions, great coaches, great players. You see every season improving.”
"I think we all have the conditions in this league,” Nani added. “We are in a great country. Everything is around us. It is all about being better, not being afraid to improve."
