MLS Nashville’s technical staff grew on Tuesday in advance of their 2020 debut, as the expansion side hired Ally Mackay as assistant general manager and former Sporting KC fullback Chance Myers as chief scout.
The new additions, originally reported by The Athletic’s Kristian Dyer, represent additional technical infrastructure for the organization as it transitions from life in the USL Championship, where it’s currently playing as Nashville SC, to the top flight.
A player agent, Mackay arrives from London-based Stellar Group, which represents over 200 soccer players worldwide, with a substantial network of connections that will aid in building out Nashville’s inaugural MLS roster.
“The experiences that Ally has gained as a player agent offers unique insight of our league and a skillset that is hard to replicate,” said Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs in a statement. “He has developed a reputation as not only a tireless worker, but for also having a proven track record for identification and selection of top young American talent. He is a tremendous asset to add to our technical staff.”
Myers recently concluded a 10-year MLS playing career highlighted by an MLS Cup title in 2013 and two U.S. Open Cup titles in 2012 and 2015 with SKC. The No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, he made a total of 158 MLS career appearances and most recently played for the Portland Timbers in 2017, though his latter years were marred by injury issues.
“We were very thoughtful about how our staff was going to be comprised, and as we looked at the profile of the successful scouts, it became apparent very quickly that Chance was our ideal choice,” said Jacobs. “His connection with current and former players in the league gives him insight like few others, and really made him the perfect fit for our club.”
