MLS's newest expansion team could one day have "the best soccer stadium" in the league. At least that is what Nashville minority owner Mark Wilf envisions.
In a Q&A with Minnesota's Star Tribune, he stated his desire to build MLS's premier soccer venue in the Music City.
Wilf is part of the Nashville ownership group led by John R. Ingram, which was awarded an expansion club in early December and plans to build a 27,500-seat soccer stadium at The Fairground Nashville.
"The uniqueness of facility design, how to deal with contract workers and professionals, we’ve gone through that experience," Wilf told the Star Tribune when asked about the differences between building a soccer-specific stadium and a football facility. "Stadium construction is a unique experience, and what we’ve learned from US Bank Stadium, which we feel is the finest venue in the world, we’ll be happy to share and hopefully give Nashville what we hope is the best soccer stadium in the country."
Nashville's expansion bid beat out those of fellow finalists Cincinnati, Sacramento and Detroit for the first of two slots awarded during this round of MLS expansion. The next expansion team is expected to be announced in 2018.
