TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension
Nashville SC and forward Daniel Rios have agreed to a contract extension through the 2022 season, the club announced Monday. The deal includes a club option for 2023.
Rios, 26, was the club's first-ever MLS signing, made long ahead of their 2020 expansion season. He made 18 appearances (eight starts), scoring four goals in just under 700 minutes as the club enjoyed a successful inaugural campaign.
“Daniel continues to grow as a player here in Nashville, and we are proud to be able to reward him for his efforts,” said Mike Jacobs, Nashville SC General Manager, in a statement.
A product of Chivas Guadalajara's youth academy, Rios made his name in USL on loan with North Carolina FC before Nashville acquired him. He was stellar at that level, with 40 goals in 62 appearances between Nashville and North Carolina.
Rios is an option up top for head coach Gary Smith, alongside Jhonder Cadiz, CJ Sapong, Dom Badji and others as Nashville enter season number two in MLS.
