New England attacker Juan Agudelo was named on Tuesday Alcatel MLS Player of the Week for Week 4 of the 2017 season, earning the honor for his two-goal performance in the Revs’ 5-2 win against Minnesota United FC on Saturday.
Agudelo was voted as Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). This is the third time in four weeks that a player has been voted Player of the Week for a performance against Minnesota.
The occasional US international got things started early against Minnesota, scoring in the fourth minute to give New England a 1-0 lead. The 24-year-old got on the end of a Chris Tierney cross at the top of the six-yard box, heading his effort inside the left post to give the Revs the early advantage.
After goals from Collen Warner and Kei Kamara made it 2-1 to New England, Agudelo earned a penalty in the 31st minute, picking up the ball on the left wing and running into the area before being fouled by Loons defender Vadim Demidov. Lee Nguyen went on to convert the penalty, giving the Revs a 3-1 lead.
Agudelo made it 4-1 a few minutes later, collecting a Diego Fagundez ball on the left flank, cutting into the area on his right foot and slotting a shot inside the near post in the 40th minute.
The brace was the third of Agudelo’s career, and his first since 2013. The striker now has 34 goals in 132 career MLS appearances, with 23 of his tallies coming as a member of the Revolution.
Agudelo and New England will return to action on Sunday, when they’ll take on the Portland Timbers in a nationally-televised match at Providence Park (9 pm ET | ESPN2 in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).
