TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New England Revolution have signed 17-year-old defender Santiago Suárez to a multi-year, multi-layered contract, the club announced Monday.
The 6-foot-5 center back, a US youth international, arrives from USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC and will spend the 2023 season with Revolution II in MLS NEXT Pro. He'll then be added to New England’s MLS roster as a homegrown player for the 2024 campaign.
“We are excited to welcome Santiago to the New England Revolution as he begins his professional career,” Revolution technical director Curt Onalfo said in a release. “He’s an incredible young talent and we look forward to helping him improve each and every day in our progressive pro player pathway system.”
Nicknamed "Tiago," Suárez began the 2021-22 academy season with Sacramento's U-17 squad before being promoted to their U-19s. He made six first-team appearances (four starts), logging 335 minutes at the second-division club.
A California native with Uruguayan heritage, he featured in a US U-19 camp this past June. That gathering also featured Revolution homegrown midfielders Esmir Bajraktarevic and Noel Buck.
