TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The New England Revolution have conceded seven goals in their last three matches, all losses, and heading into the home stretch of the season they made a signing to solve some issues at the back.
The club announced the signing of Michael Mancienne, a 30-year-old English center back who last played for EFL Championship side Nottingham Forest on Friday.
Mancienne is a product of Chelsea's youth system and made six appearances for the senior team. He spent the last three seasons with Forest in the Championship, making 101 appearances. He hasn't scored a league goal in his senior career.
“Michael’s a defender who has played at the highest levels in both England and Germany throughout his career,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said. “We believe his experience will help him make immediate contributions to the club and allow him to become a leader on and off the field.”
The deal is pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa. He will be added to the roster using Target Allocation Money.
Prior to joining Forest, Mancienne played for Hamburg in the Bundesliga, making 55 appearances. Between playing for Chelsea and Hamburg, Mancienne spent five seasons on loan between Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton. He represented England at every youth level between U-16 and U-21, though has never been capped for the senior team.
“It was just an exciting opportunity,” Mancienne said. “It was something that I couldn’t turn down. I had obviously other options in England, but to be honest this was something that was amazing. I think it’s beautiful.”
Mancienne will fill an international slot for New England, who have now filled all seven of their international roster slots. He will battle Claude Dielna, Jalil Anibaba and Antonio Mlinar Delamea for playing time.
