Newly-signed New York City FC coach Domenec Torrent will be on the sideline for his first match in charge Sunday (5 pm ET | TSN — Full TV & Streaming info) against Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium.
Torrent, who spent the last 11 years as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, most recently at Manchester City, was hired as NYCFC's third coach on June 11 immediately after Patrick Vieira left for OGC Nice. Torrent remained in his native Spain awaiting his work visa, while holdover assistant coaches Javier Perez and Rob Vartughian ran training sessions.
After receipt of his work permit, Torrent arrived Friday night and joined NYCFC at training Saturday morning.
With his yet-to-be-named assistant coaches still awaiting their work permits, Torrent will be joined by Perez and Vartughian in the technical area Sunday for the club’s first match since Vieira’s departure after two-and-a-half successful seasons. NYCFC currently sit in second place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-3-4 record, five points behind leaders Atlanta United with a game in hand.
