The race is far from over, but it's increasingly looking like the 2016 MLS Golden Boot award will be coming to New York. Whether that's the red or blue side of the NY Derby, however, remains to be seen.
New York City FC's David Villa made his case for the crown on Friday night, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. The second consecutive week he's scored two goals in a game, he also moved ahead of the New York Red Bulls' Bradley Wright-Phillips into first place in the Golden Boot, with 21 goals for the season.
Wright-Phillips, who has 20 goals to date, will have his chance to match or overtake Villa in the Red Bulls' clash against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday (7 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
There's also the rest of the chasing pack, who will have a chance to make up ground this weekend as well. But for the moment, the Spaniard sits in the driver's seat for the MLS Golden Boot.
