Haris Medunjanin scored an Olimpico five minutes from time to lift FC Cincinnati to a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.
The veteran midfielder went to the corner after his open attempt from just outside the box deflected over the end line.
Medunjanin curled his effort over goalkeeper David Jensen, off the back post and in for his first goal for FC Cincinnati after three years with the Philadelphia Union.
It was a deserved goal because FC Cincinnati were more dangerous in attack. Brandon Vazquez had a pair of solid chances, but he was ruled to be in an offside position when he scored on a back-post header in the 34th minute and then denied by a Jensen kick save in the 72nd minute after being played in on goal by Yuya Kubo in the 72nd minute.
Jurgen Locadia also had two opportunities in the first half, but he was first denied by Jensen and later fired wide of the far post after being played in behind the Red Bulls defense.
