The New York Red Bulls announced on Friday that Panamanian fullback Michael Amir Murillo has been transferred to Belgian side RSC Anderlecht.
Though terms of the deal were not disclosed, though it is clear that RBNY did receive a fee for the right back.
MLSsoccer.com's Dylan Butler reported the transfer fee was in the "high six figures" with potential to go over $1 million.
“We thank Amir for his contributions to our club over the last three years,” said Hamlett in a statement. “Amir has continued to grow as a player and person since he joined us as a 20-year-old, and we wish him the best of luck in Europe.”
Murillo, 23, joined the Red Bulls on loan from Panama’s San Francisco FC in 2017 and took hold of their right back spot, leading the club to exercise an option to buy him at the end of the season. He departs with four goals and 10 assists compiled over 62 league matches (54 starts), and played a role in 21 clean sheets.
He earned MLS All-Star honors in 2018 and was a member of Panama’s squad at that year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia. Anderlecht were home to his former RBNY teammate Sacha Kljestan from 2010-15 and currently feature former FC Cincinnati midfielder Kenny Saief and MLS product Andy Najar on their roster.
The Red Bulls currently have two other right backs on their roster in Kyle Duncan and Rece Buckmaster. Duncan, a US Under-23 international, figures to step into a starting role in 2020.
