The New York Red Bulls have been dominant at Red Bull Arena since it opened in 2010, boasting an MLS-best 2.15 points-per-game average at home from 2010-18.
This season, however, has been a decidedly different story. Wednesday's 2-1 home loss to the Montreal Impact dropped New York to 3-3-0 at home in league play, just 1.5 points per game and a far cry from their recent success.
"Yeah, and you know, especially at home I think that’s been the most disappointing thing of all is our inability to win at home and see out games like this at home that in the past we would have full confidence in and so like I said, we have to take a really hard look at the mirror, the players, and we just have to be better, much better, and that’s on us," said midfielder Sean Davis after the match.
The three home losses are already the most New York have suffered in a single season since 2015 (12W-3L-2D) and 2014 (10W-3L-4D). Their next home loss would take them back to the Meadowlands era as the most since a 5W-6L-4D mark at Giants Stadium in 2009.
The Red Bulls led MLS in 2018 with a 14W-2L-1D record in home contests. After playing at FC Dallas on Saturday (2 pm ET | Univision — Full TV & streaming info) New York will host Atlanta United on Sunday, May 19.
