TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
The New York Red Bulls announced Wednesday morning that they have signed forward Tom Barlow to an MLS contract. Barlow, a 2018 MLS SuperDraft pick by the Red Bulls, joins the first team after scoring 18 goals in 34 games in the USL Championship with New York Red Bulls II.
“Tom has earned a spot on our first team roster with his play on the field, which is a result of hard work and commitment day in and day out,” said Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett in a team statement. “When we drafted Tom in 2018 we liked him as a player, and now we have seen how he fits within our team, and within our playing style. We are excited for Tom to get this opportunity and look forward to his continued development.”
Barlow was drafted in the second round (39th overall) of the 2018 SuperDraft out of Wisconsin. He scored 10 goals in 26 USL appearances as a rookie, and now leads the USL Championship with eight goals in as many appearances in 2019.
“We are pleased to add Tom to the first team,” said Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas. “We’ve watched him closely with our USL team and have seen rapid growth. Tom is athletic, honest, but also intelligent and this makes him a consistent attacking threat up the field. This signing is another example of the value of our USL team and the work that [Red Bulls II head coach] John Wolyniec and his staff continue to do.”
Barlow will be available for selection on Wednesday night when the Red Bulls host the Montreal Impact at Red Bull Arena (8 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in the US; TVAS in Canada).
