For the fifth time in U.S. Open Cup play, familiar foes will square off in somewhat unfamiliar surroundings as the New York Red Bulls host the New England Revolution in a fourth-round showdown of Eastern Conference foes at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, New Jersey Tuesday night.
MSU Soccer Park is home to Red Bulls II of the USL Championship.
New York Red Bulls
The Red Bulls had all the good feels with four wins in five unbeaten and back-to-back clean sheet victories, until they left Talen Energy Stadium Saturday night on the wrong side of a 3-2 result against the Philadelphia Union.
Kaku and Brian White staked the visitors to a two-goal halftime lead, but Ilsinho came off the bench to score twice and set up Jamiro Monteiro in the come-from-behind win for the Union.
The Red Bulls are 3-1 all-time against the Revs in the USOC, claiming a 1-0 quarterfinal victory on the road in 2017 en route to the club’s second appearance in the tournament’s final.
New England Revolution
A confident Revs come to Montclair for Bruce Arena’s second game in charge, unbeaten in their last four games.
New England defeated the LA Galaxy for their first road win of the season, winning 2-1 on June 2. Cristian Penilla opened the scoring just before halftime and Teal Bunbury doubled their lead on the hour mark before Zlatan Ibrahimovic pulled the hosts to within a goal with a bicycle kick six minutes from full time.
Arena coached the Red Bulls from 2006-2007, where they were 16W-16L-10D in his year-and-a-half at the helm.
