New Zealand Football announced on Sunday that Jake Gleeson will not take part in Tuesday's friendly vs. the United States due to “a minor groin injury.”
The federation's statement said that the Portland Timbers goalkeeper reported to his national team's camp with the injury, and that he had “failed to fully recover” from the issue in time to face the hosts at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC.
Gleeson was listed as a substitute in New Zealand's 2-1 friendly loss to Mexico in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, with Stefan Marinovic guarding the nets for the All Whites.
Gleeson made his New Zealand senior debut in 2011 and has eight caps to his name. He began the current MLS season as the Timbers' backup 'keeper, but won the starting job away from Adam Kwarasey after the Norwegian-Ghanaian suffered a hand injury in April.
