FC Dallas and US national team right back Reggie Cannon is a wanted commodity in global soccer, with a number of suitors reportedly tracking him from Europe. As of now, though, interest is just that.
FCD technical director Andre Zanotta commented Thursday on a report that Belgian club Anderlecht is chasing the youngster, saying that no transfer bid has been made just yet.
"There is a lot of speculation, I saw an article that there was interest in Belgium on him, but nothing came to me," Zanotta told reporters on a video call. "Just rumors, I don't know if they're real. But for us, we didn't get any call or any formal approach for Reggie."
Anderlecht been active in the market for MLS players, having recently acquired Michael Murillo and Kemar Lawrence from the New York Red Bulls in separate deals. They also acquired Andy Najar from D.C. United in 2013.
Cannon recently signed a new four-year contract with Dallas and has drawn widespread interest from European clubs. He hasn't been shy in speaking of his desire to play overseas at some point in his career, but admitted that the COVID-19 pandemic may impact his immediate future as the transfer market is currently on hold.
The 21-year-old academy product has already made 61 MLS starts for Dallas.
Cannon is one of many academy graduates in the Dallas first team, another is midfielder Brandon Servania. Servania is entering the final year of his Homegrown contract and the club are intent to ensure his future remains in Dallas.
"We are interested in keeping Brandon here, when we believe it's the right time, we'll discuss a contract extension for him," Zanotta said. "It's not only his case, there are others we have in mind that we want to start talking. Just like we did with Paxton (Pomykal), Jesus (Ferreria), Reggie, Jesse (Gonzalez) and others. Yes, Brandon is someone we obviously want to keep."
Servania, 21, made 18 MLS appearances for FCD last season and played in the U-20 World Cup with the US national team in May then earned a call-up to the senior camp in January.
"Brandon is a guy who we see a great future for," Zanotta said. "We saw what his second (season) was like, he played amazing in the playoff game against Seattle. I see a very bright future."
