TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
NYCFC have signed goalkeeper Evan Newton on loan from USL Championship side Indy Eleven, the club announced Monday.
The move is so NYCFC have three goalkeepers for the resumption of the Concacaf Champions League, which returns on December 15. Newton will return to Indy Eleven upon the completion of the competition.
NYCFC trail Tigres UANL 1-0 after the first leg.
Longtime starter Sean Johnson is expected to get the nod against Tigres, while 2018 first-round SuperDraft pick Luis Barraza is expected to be the backup. Goalkeeper Brad Stuver left the club with his contract expiring.
Newton was named the USL 2018 Golden Glove winner during his time at FC Cincinnati and has appeared in 42 matches with 12 clean sheets for Indy Eleven since joining in 2019.
