TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
After a week's worth of reports and speculation, Atlanta United officially announced the signing of defender Florentin Pogba on Tuesday, inking the Guinea international as a Discovery Signing.
The older brother of France and Manchester United megastar Paul Pogba, Florentin, 28, is a left-footed center back with nearly a decade of experience in France’s Ligue 1. He has already joined the Five Stripes in preseason camp.
“We’re pleased to officially welcome Florentin to our club,” Atlanta United VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. “He’s a physical center back who also has the ability to play with his feet. He also brings an immense amount of experience after representing his club and country in various international tournaments and we expect him to compete for playing time on our backline.”
Raised in the Paris suburbs after arriving in the country as an infant, he represented France at youth international level before switching allegiance to the country of his birth, for whom he’s earned 21 caps.
Florentin was a free agent after departing Turkish side Genclerbirligi after less than a year; he came close to signing with Spain’s Elche this winter before joining ATLUTD. His brother Paul effectively broke the news of his signing via a social-media post:
